Janmashtami

                                                                  JANMASHTAMI

Janmashtami is a festival of Hindus. On this day the Birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated on the eighth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadrapada (August to September).

Thus, this festival is named as Janmashtami (JANM-BIRTH and ASHTAMI-EIGHTH). Krishna was the Eighth Child of his Mother, Devaki. There is a story behind why the birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated  With Grandeur.

A long time ago in Mathura, there was a king named Kans Who was very famous for his greed. After her sister Devaki Married Vasudev, a Prophetic voice coming from the clouds above him  announced that " kans your tyranny (arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power; despotic abuse of authority.) will soon come to an end. The Eight son Which will Be born to His sister Devaki and Vasudev will kill you. "Kans started thinking and he finally kept them in a new leaf fence.

kans went on killing all the 7 children of Devaki. Then Finally Devaki gave birth to her eighth child. The Prophetic voice returned and said that take the child across the river Yamuna to Gokul and exchange with your friend Nand and Yashoda's newly born daughter.

Vasudev stood up and soon realized that his hands got unchained, then he quickly kept his child in a basket and when he was arriving at the gate it opened on its own and the guards were sleeping. When he reached the corner of the river he stepped into the water with the basket on his head, when he was walking in the river the water didn't rose above his shoulder and suddenly 10 headed snake(Sheshnag)appeared to protect the child from the pouring rain. Vasudev at that time realized that his child was a divine being. when he reached Nand's house Vasudev exchanged Krishna with Nand's daughter and again returned to the prison.

When kans arrived at the prison and tried to harm the child it took the form of goddess Durga and said that the Eight child who was going to end your reign of terror has been gone and will fulfil his prophecy. The little Krishna faced on to Yashoda and went on to kill kans.

And this is the reason why Every year we celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna which is also known as Janmashtami across India.
