Gandhi Jayanti is one of the national holidays on 2nd October. This day is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Father of the Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, was very popular and known as Mahatma Gandhi or Bapuji. Mahatma Gandhi was Born on 2nd October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. Internationally this day is celebrated as the international day of Non-violence as Gandhiji was a very famous person who used to preach about Non-violence. He studied law in the U.K and practiced law in South Africa. He was a discoverer of Truth and Non-violence.
He started the non-violence Movement (satyagraha) in the year 1915 and was elected by the Indian national congress political party and from then he played a very significant role in achieving the freedom of India from the British rule and also introduced other movements such as "THE QUIT INDIA MOVEMENT", in 1942, "CIVIL-DISOBEDIENCE MOVEMENT", in 1930, "THE NON-COOPERATION MOVEMENT", in 1920 and these all movements led by Mahatma Gandhi helped India in gaining Independence.
On this day of Gandhi Jayanti, all the organizations remain closed throughout the country and a special event is organized at the Raj ghat where Gandhiji was cremated. People do Bhajans and sing Mahatma Gandhi's favourite song (Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram,patit Pavan Sita Ram). Some of the Gandhiji's Famous quotes are: -
